Between training, traveling, and deployment, military service presents unique challenges for building a career. Military spouses often struggle to find the time to continue schooling, and it’s an expensive prospect for tight budgets. After deployment, it can be challenging to translate military experience to civilian fields.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers is proud to help military veterans and their spouses find doable, affordable education and employment throughout those challenges. Since 2009, the Military Spouse Friendly® Schools list has established standards for higher education institutions that offer excellent post-secondary education for the spouses of service members. We are honored to earn the 2019-2020 Military Spouse Friendly® School Designation. This is our first year receiving this award, and we plan to continue providing the best training and education that military spouses deserve.

Created from federal agencies and proprietary survey information, this extensive list can be a helpful guide for military spouses thinking about advancing their education. 196 schools earned the award this year. In September, the full list will appear in Military Spouse magazine. Learn more at

The Military Friendly® Advisory Council, made of independent leaders in higher education and military recruitment, determined methodology, criteria, and weightings. They combined the institution’s survey scores with thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, degree advancement or transfer, and loan default rates (especially for student veterans) to determine the final ratings. These standards show that the organizations that earn the awards are genuinely dedicated to helping the veteran community navigate the challenges of transitioning to civilian life.

“This recognition brings validation that our training programs are an excellent option not only for Veteran students, but also their spouses who want to enter or further their careers in the IT industry. New Horizons is a premier training provider focusing on training for the Veteran community. This first-time recognition promotes New Horizons’ ability to assist Veterans and their spouses in furthering their career goals.” - Shelley Morris, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.

“Veterans and their spouses at every level of their career take courses at New Horizons. We’re focused on providing the training that the dedicated individuals in the Veteran community need to find the right job. We’re honored to earn this award, and we hope to continue serving Veterans and their spouses while they advance their career goals.” – Cindy Sutherland, VP of Career Development.
